Internal Seminars: Markup Standards

May 21, 2007

Sibers devote an essential part of time to self-education of the stuff. As the company placed its offices in an education environment, we keep up the idea of constant self-education even at work. Our design office prepared a program for web developers whose work is directly connected with markup.

The seminar program included following topics, which were discussed in details:

  • Div based layout vs. table layout. Separating presentation from the contents.

·        easy redesign;

·        div-style (semantics i) causing search engines work faster.

  • Doctype and its influence on the contents representation. Rendering modes: Standard mode and  Quirks mode. Main differences between XHTML1.0 and HTML4.01.
  • Block model (Margin, padding and border. How it works in IE6 and below). Types of elements(Block, Inline).
  • Floats. Some limitations of block model.
  • Lists. Using lists for navigation. Horizontal and vertical navigation bars. Sliding doors of CSS.  Nested lists.
