Sibers in Silicon Taiga

Many places have become such great brands that associations occur automatically.

— Where are all software companies? In Silicon Valley.
— Where do you develop software? In India.

When in the late 90's software companies started to pop up literally in the middle of nowhere, namely in the snowy soviet-built Akademgorodok, the dreamy and ambitious minds of its inhabitants needed a name for it. Siberian Bangalore? Hardly did they want to be associated with that. A Silicon Taiga? Exactly that! Not only because many of those software developers were dreaming of migrating to sunny California (and successfully realized their dreams eventually), but due to the spirit of youth, innovation and exciting experiments.

Built during the Khruschev's Thaw, Akademgorodok near Novosibirsk remained a pulsing vein even during the Brezhnev's stagnation. Everything innovative, rebellious, daring happened nowhere else but in Akademgorodok. It was not only forbidden exhibitions and concerts that were held here. Quite a number of greatest and smartest scientists moved here from Moscow and St. Petersburg to erect institutes and educate a new generation in a new university. Akademgorodok became a center for nuclear research, information technologies, biotechnologies and fundamental science.

"Silicon Taiga", the nickname for Akademgorodok first coined in western press by Newsweek in 1999, turned so popular that it became a tidbit for everyone to build a brand on. Can all Russia or all Siberia be nicknamed Silicon Taiga? No, just like not all the USA and not all California are Silicon Valley.

Thus, only Akademgorodok is in focus.

Sibers was founded as a true brainchild of its home, Akademgorodok, and accumulated in itself all its attributes. Denying old principles and prejudices, opened to all new and eager to experiment, Sibers brought to the core of their business the best they could do — communication. What about programming? Programming skills were in their bloods, so no worries here, it goes without saying.

Now Sibers promotes the exceptional value of outsourcing to Silicon Taiga. The benefits are incomparable: thanks to its pool of talents, attitude, and environment.

As a great Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov said, "Siberia will grow the power of Russia". It can now be paraphrased that Siberia will grow the innovations in the world.
